Description: ABA Wildlife considers the intactness of UWR and WHA and risk ranks areas as ABA Status Normal, Enhanced Management or Regulatory Policy depending on the level of disturbance. Scientific research, wildlife measures and current disturbance levels were considered to define triggers for enhanced management and regulatory policy. UWR triggers are 95% for enhanced management and 85% for regulatory policy. WHA afford a higher level of protection as they provide support for life requisites (such as calving and rutting areas). Small WHA, for edge intolerant species such as fisher and warbler, are managed with 98% and 95% triggers for enhanced management and regulatory policy whereas larger WHA are managed at 97% and 90% respectively. A 100m buffer has been applied to WHA <100ha to manage for edge effects.
