Service Description: <div style='text-align:Left;font-size:12pt'><p style='margin:0 0 0 0;'><span>These </span><span>layer</span><span>s are</span><span> derived from the downloadable dataset </span><a href='https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/environment/waste-management/waste-discharge-authorization/datamart/all_ams_authorizations.xlsx' style='text-decoration:underline;'><span style='text-decoration:underline;'>all_ams_authorizations.xlsx</span></a><span>, enabling spatial interpretation of authorization locations and characteristics. Authorization information is maintained in the Authorization Management System (AMS), which stores authorization documents, discharge limits, supporting materials, and monitoring requirements. The Waste Discharge Authorizations Datamart aggregates selected fields from AMS for public access and analysis.</span></p><p><p style='margin:0 0 0 0;'><span>The Province of British Columbia requires certain industrial, municipal, and commercial activities to obtain a waste discharge authorization before releasing waste into the environment. These requirements are defined under the </span><a href='https://www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca/civix/document/id/complete/statreg/03053_00' style='text-decoration:underline;'><span style='text-decoration:underline;'>Environmental Management Act</span></a><span> and the </span><a href='https://www.bclaws.gov.bc.ca/civix/document/id/complete/statreg/45_320_2004' style='text-decoration:underline;'><span style='text-decoration:underline;'>Waste Discharge Regulation</span></a><span>, which outline what activities and waste types must be authorized, such as air contaminants, industrial effluent, municipal wastewater, garbage, and hazardous waste.</span></p><p><p style='margin:0 0 0 0;'><span>The provincial waste discharge authorization program plays a central role in environmental protection by ensuring that discharges are properly regulated, monitored, and reported.
