Surface Land Use is a mechanism to measure surface disturbances caused by oil and gas activity and identify the type and land area attributed to historical and current oil and gas activities.</SPAN></SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN /><SPAN>Northeast British Columbia is the location of the majority of oil and gas activity in BC. In this area the BC Oil and Gas Commission has created a dataset that represents the area cleared for oil and gas activities and assigns the area to 1 of 5 oil and gas activity groups, Well/Facility, Roads, Pipelines, Associated and Ancillary (Other Related) Activities and Geophysical (Seismic).</SPAN></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN /></P><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN>Each year the Commission calculates the total surface area used by oil and gas activities. Spatial data for activities submitted prior to July 2016, have been collected and processed to create a static SLU base datasets.
